From 1978 to 1982, Ewa Tomicka-Krumrey studied economics at the Leipzig Graduate School of Economics. She graduated in 1987 with a doctorate in economic history. Her dissertation analysed the process of transformation in the Polish economy between 1945 and 1956. From 1987 to 1992 she was a research assistant in the archive and library of the Leipzig Graduate School of Management within the project »History of the first German Graduate School of Management 1898-1945«. From 1993 to1995, she attended a postgraduate course in »Scientific Information« at the Humboldt University of Berlin. From 1992 to 1994 she was a research assistant at the Saxon Academy of Sciences in the project »History of the Princely Jablonowsk Society of Leipzig (Societas Jablonoviana)« and from 1994 to1996 a research assistant at the University of Leipzig, Institute for Slavic Studies. Since 2000, she has been a member of the team of museum guides at the Forum of Contemporary History Leipzig – Foundation House of History.

Ewa Tomicka-Krumrey has been responsible for public relations at the GWZO since 1996. Since 2022 she has been working for the Directorate in the department »Transfer and Publications«.
