For our department »Knowledge and Participation« in Prague (headed by Dr Michal Frankl), we are seeking, from 1 February 2027, a postdoctoral researcher (all genders). The position is initially fixed-term for four years and full-time (40 hours per week). Subject to satisfactory performance and sufficient funding in the Institute’s budget, conversion to a permanent position is envisaged. The place of work is Prague, although regular attendance in Leipzig is expected.

For a multi-volume publication project on the history of art in East Central Europe based in the »Culture and Imagination« department of the GWZO, which examines the cultural heritage in the region between the Adriatic, Baltic, and Black Seas from a cross-border, pan-European perspective, we are seeking a specialist editor for the German-language edition (m/f/d) to start on 1 January 2027 (up to TV-L EG 11, part-time 20 hours per week (50%), fixed-term contract for 2 years).

Mandatory internship for students

The Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO) in Leipzig offers mandatory internships (minimum 4 weeks) in the area of science communication for students of humanities disciplines. The application deadlines are 30 April (for the following winter semester) and 31 October (for the following summer semester).

The GWZO has been awarding scholarships to doctoral candidates, post-docs and senior researchers since 2021. Applications are due by 30 April of each year.

With the special scholarship »Ukraine« we aim to support refugee scientists from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.

The GWZO's visting scholars programme enables the institute to invite academics to Leipzig for short stays, prioritising applicants from Eastern European countries.
