Olena Zhurukhina, PhD
About
Olena Zhurukhina was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. From 1998 to 2003, she studied history, archaeology and museology at the National Taras Shevchenko University in Kyiv. From 2003 to 2007, she was a postgraduate student and research assistant at the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine where she defended her dissertation entitled »The pearls of the middle Dnieper region of the 10th–13th centuries«. From 2007 to 2019, she was Junior Research Fellow at the Centre for Archaeology Kyiv. Since 2014, she has been Head of the Historical and Archaeological Research Department of the DesiatynnaChurch Historical Museum in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Olena Zhurukhina came to the GWZO as a visiting researcher funded by Special Scholarship Programme for Refugee Scientists in November 2022. From March 2024 until February 2025, she will be funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation Programme for Threatened and Refugee Researchers.
