The GWZO’s Funders

The federal government, the home state of Saxony and many other academic funders make the GWZO’s work possible.

As a Leibniz Institute, the GWZO was admitted to joint funding by the federal government and the states. This funding makes possible the work in the newly instituted three research sections and the cross-section division Knowledge Transfer and Interconnection.

For the 12 years after its inception, the GWZO was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). From 2008 to 2016, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) subsequently took over the project financing of the centre’s researches. With help of the institutional funding that the Free State of Saxony, which has provided foundational funding since 1996, splits with the federal government, as well as with the aid of additional generous BMBF funding for the sub-project »Social Environment – Visuall« (Visualisation and Architectural Design of the Social Environment, 2017–2019), the GWZO has been able to advance its research programme and the creation of research-based transfer products (editions, non-fiction and reference books, exhibition) since its acceptance into the Leibniz Association. It also receives funding for further externally funded projects and numerous events from other funding institutions.
