About

Magda Wlostowska studied Political Science, Eastern and Southeastern European Studies, and Polish Philology at Leipzig University. From 2013 to 2015, she participated in the advanced training programme »TransStar Europa« for Literary Translation and European Cultural Management at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. From 2014, she was a doctoral candidate at the Global and European Studies Institute and participated in the PhD training programme »Global and Area Studies« at Leipzig University’s the Graduate School at Leipzig University. She received her PhD from Leipzig University in 2023. Her dissertation about the history of queer activism in Poland since the 1980s was funded by the German-Polish Science Foundation and will be published by transcript Verlag in 2025. 

From 2012 to 2013, Magda Wlostowska was a research assistant at the GWZO. From 2013 to 2014, she worked as a researcher and coordinator at the Aleksander Brückner Centre for Polish Studies at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and in 2017, she returned to the GWZO to work as Press and Media Assistant. From 2018 to 2020, she worked as a researcher and curriculum manager for Slavonic and Sorbian Studies at the Academic Office of the Department for Philology at Leipzig University. In 2021, she was a researcher at the Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen. Additionally, since 2011, she has been a certified and sworn translator for Polish. 

Since March 2025, Magda Wlostowska has been Assistant to the Directorate at the GWZO and from April 2025 onwards, Coordinator of the Leibniz Research Network Central and Eastern Europe.
