Dr. Katarina Ristić
About
Katarina Ristić was born in Kragujevac, Serbia. She studied philosophy at the University of Belgrade and worked at the Humanitarian Law Center, a human rights NGO. There, she worked on transitional justice, historical accountability and war crimes trial monitoring. In 2009, she began her PhD at Leipzig University, focusing on the contested memory of the Yugoslav wars. From 2015 to 2017, she was a postdoctoral researcher at Magdeburg University and Helmut-Schmidt University/ University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg as part of the DSF-funded project, »Screening Transitional Justice in Serbia«. In 2019, she joined the Global and European Studies Institute at Leipzig University as a lecturer and senior researcher, teaching courses on Methods in Global Studies research, transitional justice, media and memory, with a focus on Southeastern Europe.
Since 2024, she has also been an affiliated researcher at the GWZO in the »Entanglements and Globalisation« department, working on the project »Far-right Digital Activism: Transnational Connections and Memory in Southeast Europe«.

Teaching
Katarina Ristić has taught a variety of courses on the MA Global and European studies (GESI), as well as at Leipzig University’s Graduate School Global and Area Studies (GSGAS).
