About

Aurelia Ohlendorf was born in Berlin. From 2013 to 2019, she studied Russian and history (for teaching) as well as Slavic studies and economics at the University of Tübingen including a study stay at St. Petersburg Herzen State Pedagogical University. In 2019, she worked as Public Relations Officer for the Berlin Wall Foundation in the context of the events series for the »30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall«.

Aurelia Ohlendorf has been a doctoral candidate at the GWZO since May 2020. She is writing her dissertation on »The Globalization of Soviet Dam Construction in the Cold War« within the research project »Socialist Development Models for the ‘Third World’«, hosted by the Collaborative Research Centre 1199 »Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition«.
In 2020/21, she was the GWZO PhD Student Representative.

Current topic of research

Cold War dam constructions were projects of particularly strong significance for political propaganda that simultaneously massively transformed regional economic structures. This research examines the Soviet Union’s economic-technical collaboration with countries from the Global South by taking technology transfer in the water infrastructure field as its case study.
